What to see and do
The eight villages which make up Zignago are all located under Monte Dragone, where a famous sanctuary can also be found. The villages are set in scenic hills, surrounded by chestnut trees. The architecture of the villages is in the typical Ligurian rural style.
The first village in this area was built in the Bronze Age. Archaeological artefacts from the middle and late Bronze Age (XVI-XIV B.C.) were found the Castellaro, the Castle of Zignago. The Stele Statue of Zignago, an anthropomorphic statue, was found in 1827. It dates from the VI-V centuries B.C. and is similar to the Lunigiana Stele Statures.
The whole territory is crisscrossed with ancient roads and footpaths, which connect the area to Levanto to Pontremoli. The Alta Via dei Monti Liguri can be reached from footpaths beginning in the village of Serò (info: www.altaviadeimontiliguri.it).
