What to see and do
Rochetta Vara has pre-Roman origins. Artefacts from the 3rd and 2nd centuries B.C. have been found in the hamlet of Pianaccia di Suvero. In the Middle Ages, Rocchetta Vara belong to the Abbey of Brugnato. In the 14th century it became property of the Malaspina family. The Malaspina built a castle in the village of Suvero: Today, only the ruins remain.
Suvero and the surrounding villages have typical Ligurian architecture. Linking stone houses, connected by arches and vaults line its narrow alleys.
Today Rocchetta Vara, like the rest of the Val di Vara, is quiet and relaxing.
Vegetables and meat are organically produced here. The Val di Vara is known as the Organic Valley.
Many footpaths run through this territory, such as the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, near the Vallico dei Casoni   (info: www.altaviadeimontiliguri.it ).
Rochetta Vara offers an ideal holiday for those looking for local traditions, tranquillity and quality cuisine.
