What to see and do
Follo is an ancient town. It frequently passed from one dominion to another, because of its strategic position. Historical remains from different periods can be found in Follo and the surrounding area.
The 10th century Church of San Martino and the ruins of medieval walls can be seen in Pian di Follo.
The ancient village of Follo, surrounded by chestnut and olive trees, has maintained its medieval Ligurian aspect. This medieval atmosphere can be absorbed by walking along its narrow streets, lined with linking village houses and connected by arches and vaults.
The river area is part of the Montemarcello-Magra Regional Park, ( info: www.parcomagra.it ). Hiking, biking and horse riding are some of the activities which are offered in the park area. A vast network of ancient footpaths connects Follo to other nearby villages, the Gulf of La Spezia and the upper Val di Vara.
Small industries and local artisan activies have recently developed in the lower area surrounding Follo.
