What to see and do

Carrodano has ancient origins, probably pre-Roman. It passed under several dominions, finally becoming a free territory under the jurisdiction of Genoa. The town is surrounded by terraced hills containing vineyards, olive trees and orchards.
Hiking and nature tourism have recently developed around the hamlet of Mattarana and the Passo del Bracco. Many foot paths pass through this area. The Sentiero 5T (Path 5T), which goes from Levanto to Monte Zatta, is part of the Alta Via delle Cinque Terre.
The ruins of two ancient hospices can still be found in Carrodano along the Via Romea or di Francia. The Hospice of San Nicolao is located in upper Carrodano. While the Hospice of Santo Sprito is located in lower Carrodano.
The Santuario della Madonna di Roverano deserves a visit. Built on an ancient Ligurian burial ground, it was later restored in the Baroque style. This sanctuary is still the destination of pilgrimages. The “Miracle of the Blooming Olive Trees” is repeated every year on
September the 7th.
